Hunslet 901 "Russell"

North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways

Russell ran on the NWNGR from delivery in 1906, until its incorporation within the new Welsh Highland Railway in 1922.

Only 3 years old, and Russell & Gowrie are seen at Dinas. Russell was mainly used on freight services in the Bryngwyn Branch during NWNGR days, so this picture is one of the few that exist.

Notice that it has already lost the sand box on top of the boiler.

And also that the poor loco hasn't seen a can of brasso for a long time. Look at the dome and plates, compared to the brass strip on top of the boiler.
